Minibuses are a valuable asset to schools as it allows pupils to access the benefits of out-of-school activities. However, driving a minibus is not a task to be undertaken lightly, our Minibus Driver training courses prepares your staff for the responsibility of carrying passengers, and driving a vehicle that is, perhaps, significantly larger than they are used too.
The School Minibus Company have partnered with 5 Counties Driver Training to help schools, academies, colleges and universities ensure their staff are fully qualified to drive their Minibus. Their courses focus specifically on building confidence and competence – and developing awareness around the relevant safety issues.
For any staff member who passed their category B car driving test on or after 1st January 1997 will not have the required category D1 on their licence. If your school minibus weighs over 3.5 tonnes (or 4.25 tonnes if adapted for passengers with disabilities) then your driver will need to take and pass The Driving Standards Agency test for this type of vehicle.
In addition, 5 Counties Driver Training also offer MiDAS, the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme, which is a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. This course is designed for drivers who already have the D1 licence but require refresher training, or require training for a smaller minibus that doesn’t require a D1.
